LONELY

A lonely soul

As a lost sheep

Whether alone or in a crowd

Emptiness stalks his soul

The haunt of darkened “nothingness” starves the spirit

Fear is muffled and shrouded in a fog

A heavy heart weighs down the body.

There is no light

No song of joy or even gladness

Outward strength quickly fades

Images of self, displayed as a thin veneer

A slight breeze strikes and the image scatters.

A hopeless dilemma indeed

Like a small bird caught in an ugly snare,

Impossible for human effort to seed and sprout

Yet alone blossom and bear good fruit;

The will has become numb

Beyond mere depression,

Only “One” greater than this world, this life, our selves

Can awaken, can rescue

A Name greater, above all

God alone can save such a man with Divine mercy

God alone can save such a woman with Divine compassion

The God who must be there alone can answer this first prayer,

My prayer for life, for help with a caring touch from the Shepherd!

*  * *From memories of my college days, a fraternity, athletics and an engineering school; then the military.

DELIVERANCE / (Psalm 70)

All who call upon the Name of the Lord have faith,

And all with faith seek their Lord

To walk as He walked

In the Holy Spirit power of Truth

Living Words upon the heart and soul,

The world of darkness overcome

The strength of the enemy becomes weakness,

Vulnerability of self, experiences the Cross of Messiah daily

Each new creation clothed in the “Armor of Light “;

Demon spirits, fallen angels who sought only to destroy

To drown in depression and despair, fear and loneliness,

Are cast off as worn out clothes, worn out thoughts of the mind

The waste of this earth returned to the dust of the earth.

The Father of Grace and Mercy

Draws another and another

Even more men and women into the arms of Love and freedom

Yeshua who gives rich treasures of Peace and Wisdom

The “Joy of Salvation” in His Joy!

The Holy Spirit from the Throne of God indwells

Enables and empowers another human to follow the Shepherd through His Gate

Into the pastures of Divine Presence

The sheep who clearly hear His Voice

And follow their Messiah alone!

*”Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is

there is freedom.”

OUR NEEDS

OUR NEEDS

Our needs grow beyond self

As the soul searches for a way,

The heart nearly breaking

Reaches out for help

Tears and anguish

Often inner turmoil,

Love grasped, then lost

Comfort so fragile, collapses in a heap

Sometimes in quiet, lonely desperation,

Longing and yeaning just worn out!

A woman finally bows to the Way

A man humbles himself in quiet, simple prayer,

After stumbling and mumbling along

As a small child in tears

Life in this world simply too overwhelming,

Like a flood that nearly covers

Or flames of fire ready to consume.

The God of Sovereignty watches

Lord of Mercy listens fully

Even the One who sees the end from the beginning,

He always reaches out in compassion

“Knows what we are made of”

And “remembers we are but dust”;

Messiah feels the pain and suffering that washes about

The constant torment of humanity.

Long ago He stepped from His Throne

To embrace His Cross for us,

To “swallow death for all time”;

His hands are more than able

Power  ready to raise a man from the thick mud

Authority to free a woman from an impossible snare.

Human needs of every kind the reason

An earthly catalyst, a gracious push

The Shepherd’s eternal mercy with kindness in action

Intimate revelation given of personal worth in His sight,

Each precious one

No child ever forgotten.

RETURN TO ME

A child wanders along a school playground

He seeks friends

Wants to laugh and play

He wants to have fun like others

Yet, he wanders alone

As if lost

Yearning from deep within

Longing for something,

For someone

Then, he stumbles once more,

And gets up again

Continues to search

Though he’s not sure for what;

Tears have long ago dried up

Given up, then tried again and again,

Suddenly one day a little bird hops along the ground nearby

With a hurt wing

He picks up the sparrow and puts it carefully away

Safely in a small tree on a hidden branch.

Then a tear returns, runs down his face

And he remembers some words he once heard,

A stranger talked loudly by a store downtown

About “rising up again”

And someone who died a long time ago

Someone special and something about a “Cross” somewhere,

A good man who came back to life

Who is alive even today

To help us, to love us

A friend forever

Who cares when no one else does;

Some grownups laughed as they walked by,

But he listened and remembered.

So, he sat down in a corner of the school playground

As some other kids ran around in groups,

He began to talk out loud up to the sky

And even cry for this Lord

To somehow be alive to him, too

A real friend forever;

Then, it happened

Like an angel, but more

Who took him in His arms

Held him close as He spoke

“Forever my son

Yes, forever and forever.”

Even more tender words followed that have never left him

As he grew up and later became an old man.

TWO ARE BETTER

TWO  ARE  BETTER

Two are better than one

In the warmth of friendship

Hands held tightly in comfort

Assurance as hearts drawn together

Close in understanding

Closer in sharing and caring;

Each held above the other

As love supports,

Even while the tent of the Lord covers

Spread gently over and around

Such beauty of Truth glows brightly

In Zion, the wonder of new  life together;

A comforting Presence anchored in Hope

Love proven true and faithful

When steps in honesty are taken one after another

Up one mountain  of trial

Then down another in confidence

The test of humility through the thick forest,

Along a river’s mystique

And into and out of elegant valleys;

Landscape lush or landscape sparse

Sands of the many seashores

Sand of a desert trek

Pleasant sun or scorching heat,

Two are always better than one.

Loneliness flees away

Weakness and vulnerability calmed and quieted,

Abundance chases all “nothingness” into intellectual abstractions

Assurance peacefully prevails with strength

Reassurance towers high above

As we both move forward, together in life,

Always forward in covenant love

Pressing on hand in hand, closer to the Lord.

LONELY  SOUL

Lonely soul

You wonder why

When up above many birds easily fly

How is it that down below

You look above

And can only wonder why?

In dreams at night

The mind can soar

Both far away

And very near

Simple ways in simple times

To reach the sky

And touch a cloud.

At last, honest prayer with humble words

To bow upon the Earth

Invisible things

The spiritual realm

To touch that  hand

To feel His heart

In Spirit winds that lift high above

Beyond the mind

Beyond mere eyes.

Comfort encloses

Encouragement wraps about each moment

Tears wiped clean

A most tender touch

What is empty

So easily filled

With honest prayer and humble words,

The beauty of Heaven now revealed

Living Words, Bible Words

Secrets soon made known

True wonders of your life clearly shown,

Pure light of your future in hand

Lonely one, lonely no more!

ALONE IN PRAYER

ALONE  IN  PRAYER

Alone but not alone

Holy Presence always near

My heart yearns, groans

My soul throbs

Then, my spirit soars.

When I know the Lord is close

Closer than my breath

Confidence climbs any mountain

Valleys are the same,

All that life on earth,

Life in the body can experience

Flows in God’s stream of good purpose

Of enduring strength

Of willful meaning.

As I bow my heart, a hand is sensed nearby

Tenderness upon a shoulder

A hand of persevering strength touches

An inner breath renews my mind,

Invites rest once more;

Eyes see the future more clearly

Eyes even see into eternity

Eternal Sabbath rest in the finished divine work on the cross,

Rest before the Throne.

A King, my King, our King, the King

Most radiant beauty

Fulfillment of every purely imagined delight.

The cloak of prayer warms

A blanket of comfort wraps about

Time is ripe

Another step forward is taken

Then another in faith

And a steady flow of others;

My life on earth lived out

Faith a fearless walk of love and strength,

A walk of confidence and peace.
